Confirmed today by AZ's CEO Mr Rocco Sabelli.
AZ will add GIG, their second Brazilian destination, and another one between Shanghai and Beijing as long-new haul destinations.

I think they will proceed with the request to ANAC in the next days.

http://www.lagenziadiviaggi.it/notizia.php...p;IDCategoria=1Thanks! The article didn't mention the new flight though but still good news.

Thanks again! Keep us posted, please. I'm looking forward for some more solid news. Do you have any info regarding the schedules? I guess AZ requested the slots at Fiumicino already, didn't they?

As far as I know they have already requested (at FCO), but I'm sorry I don't have more details at the moment.
The only thing I know is that it will be a red-eye flight with new A330, 5xw.
Anyways, as soon as I get more info I will post here.
:-)

Thank you again! This route will definetly be a winner, specially with the red-eye schedule. Hopefully it will push BA and IB to change their schedules too. I can see AZ upgrading the flight to daily pretty soon.
Looking forward for more news.

Grazie!

Amazing !
5x weekly with the brand new A332 and also red-eye ! It's perfect for the market and it shows that AZ come to compete for the premium market with their best equipment. I heard from good source that it's expected to become daily on Winter season 2011/2012.
Good for Rio, good for Minas, good for Fiat and good for Brazil as more Italians will be visiting the country.
