Primeiro fretamento do MIP.

01 AUGUST, 2018

Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia has confirmed it is the first customer to wet-lease Hi Fly's Airbus A380.

The leisure operator tells FlightGlobal it is using the widebody for a one-off flight today between Copenhagen and Rhodes, to collect customers who have been delayed by IT problems at the Greek airport.

Thomas Cook says the "beautiful" jet was needed for "extra capacity to bring our guests back safely".

There are no current plans to use the A380 for any other flights, as Thomas Cook has a number of reserve aircraft based in the UK, Germany, Denmark, Scandinavia and the Balearic islands which can provide additional capacity.

Owned by Doric and registered in Malta, the Hi Fly A380 is an ex-Singapore Airlines aircraft configured with 471 seats. It is the first jet of the type to have been involved in a secondary-market transaction.

LONDON

Portuguese wet-lease specialist Hi Fly has found another customer for its Airbus A380, in the shape of Norwegian.

"We have hired a Hi Fly A380 to operate our evening London-New York service for several weeks in August," the Scandinavian low-cost carrier confirms.

It cites the "continued issues with a specific Rolls-Royce engine type" that have reduced availability of its Trent 1000-powered Boeing 787s, "in line with other airlines that have been affected by similar problems".

The A380 will offer "a high-quality experience", Norwegian promises.

Hi Fly's example (Maltese-registered MSN6) has in recent days been used to conduct flights on behalf of leisure group Thomas Cook.

Hi Fly A380 engine hits airbridge at Paris CDG

10 SEPTEMBER, 2018

LONDON

Air Austral was forced to make last-minute changes to its flight schedule after a 7 September incident involving an Airbus A380 that the Indian Ocean carrier is wet-leasing from Hi Fly.

One of the A380's engines struck an airbridge at Paris Charles de Gaulle, causing the jet to be "immobilised immediately", says Air Austral.

The A380 was to have operated flight UU978, to Reuinion, but instead had to go for a repair requiring a part that could not be delivered until 10 September.

In the meantime, Air Austral's schedule was revised to reroute affected passengers, says the airline. Its Boeing 777-300ER and 787-8 were used to conduct flights between Paris and Reunion.

The airline also "urgently" chartered a Boeing 767-300 from Spanish wet-lease provider Privilege Style, which is today operating a Reunion-Paris service.

"A return to normal" is scheduled for 11 September, adds Air Austral.

Hi Fly's single A380 (MSN6) is an ex-Singapore Airlines example placed with the Portuguese carrier by Doric. The jet was displayed at the Farnborough air show following handover to the wet-leasing specialist's Maltese unit, and has since been used to operate flights for Thomas Cookand Norwegian.
