A ITA - Italia Transporto Aereo, é lançada

- A ITA vai priorizar o retorno ao mercado TATL, não tem aeronaves;

- Aqui as duas estão com excesso de wide, e podem operar lá com o 763 e A332, adequados à rota;

- Mesmo com as restrições de vender voos de conexão, pode oferecer AEP-GRU-FCO, pois Alitalia saiu e não acho que a ARG retornou para Roma;

- Tanto Azul quanto a LATAM tem capilaridade aqui;

JANUARY 12, 2022

By Francesca Landini

Alitalia’s successor ITA Airways is looking for a partner ready to invest in the Italian carrier, Chairman Alfredo Altavilla said on Wednesday, adding that the airline could seal an alliance by June.

Speaking at a parliamentary hearing, Altavilla said that the state-owned carrier had already started informal talks with some potential partners, both in Europe and overseas, but did not name any suitors.

“We don’t need code sharing or a commercial joint venture. If you put money on the table, you play; if you don’t put money on the table, you can avoid asking for access to the data room,” he said. “We are looking for an equity partnership.”

Two sources close to ITA Airways told Reuters that the Italian carrier has been in contact with Germany’s Lufthansa, British Airways and United States-based Delta, adding that formal talks could start by the end of March.

A Lufthansa spokesman reiterated that the German carrier was open to the possibility of a partnership with ITA. A Delta representative was not available for comment and British Airways declined to comment.

ITA Airways started flying on Oct. 15 with nearly 2,300 employees and a fleet less than half the size of that operated by Alitalia.

FLEXIBLE’

“We are flexible, have cut costs and we have a fleet and network that can be integrated into that of a bigger partner,” Altavilla said, adding that the Italian carrier was not interested in an alliance that would make ITA merely a junior partner and hold back growth at its Rome and Milan airports.

The final decision on any tie-up would depend on the Italian government, which is in favour of a partnership but has not made clear whether it would be ready to relinquish control of the carrier.

“The option of a partner entering ITA Airways is the path desired from the outset for ITA’s survival ... there is no official position on (a partnership with) Lufthansa, but we don’t hide the hope for such a partnership,” a source within Italy’s industry ministry told Reuters.

ITA Airways reported revenue of 86 million euros ($98.1 million) for the period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 31, well below estimates given in its business plan, Altavilla said.

But the airline started 2022 with a higher than expected 400 million euros in cash, helped by cost cuts, a smaller workforce and some flight suspensions because of the continuing coronavirus crisis, the chairman added.

($1 = 0.8763 euros)

The second aircraft sporting the new blue livery has joined the ITA Airways fleet. It is an Airbus A319 dedicated to the Olympic champion Pietro Mennea, who was known with the nickname of "The Arrow of the South" and was the man of records in terms of speed.

Delta denies interest in investing in Italy’s ITA Airways

17.01.2022 - 09:40 UTC

Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) does not plan to invest in ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) for the time being, its chief executive Ed Bastian told Reuters on January 13, his comments coming a day after the Alitalia successor confirmed it was looking for a partner ready to invest in the Italian carrier.

“We have no plans to invest in them,” Bastian said, although he acknowledged that the two airlines were working on a codeshare agreement, talks on which began in December.

ITA Airways’ chairman, Alfredo Altavilla, told a parliamentary hearing on January 12 that the state-owned carrier had started informal talks with potential partners, in Europe and overseas, though he opted not to name them. An alliance could be sealed by June, he added.

“We don’t need codesharing or a commercial joint venture. If you put money on the table, you play. If you don’t put money on the table, you can forget asking for access to the data room. We are looking for an equity partnership,” he said.

Two unnamed sources “close to ITA” had told Reuters that the Italian national airline had been in contact with Delta as well as with rival suitors Lufthansa and IAG International Airlines Group, parent of Iberia and British Airways, claiming that formal talks are likely to start by April.

As previously reported, ITA Airways joined Skyteam in October, the global alliance dominated by Delta and Air France-KLM. However, by January reports emerged that the Italian carrier appeared to be favouring Lufthansa, founding member of the Star Alliance, while Oneworld alliance player IAG, recently released from its obligations towards Air Europa, had also emerged as a contender.

“We are flexible, have cut costs, and we have a fleet and network that can be integrated into that of a bigger partner,” Altavilla said, although he clarified that ITA did not want to be a junior partner which could restrain growth at Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate.

The final decision on a partnership will come from the Italian government. It has hinted it is in favour of an equity deal but has not said if it would want to let go of majority control of its carefully rehabilitated national airline. Nevertheless, Altavilla admitted at the hearing that ITA Airways reported EUR86 million euros (USD98 million) in revenue between October 15, the date it took over from Alitalia, and December 31 - substantially underperforming its business plan.

Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) woos Lufthansa

Premium Analysis

According to a number of media reports, Lufthansa is talking to Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) about the possible acquisition of a 15% to 40% stake in the Italian airline. Discussions include cooperation on purchasing and the development of Rome Fiumicino as a hub.

Italy's new national airline, ITA was launched in Oct-2021 to take over from the perennial loss-maker Alitalia, which ceased operations at the same time.

Based on data from OAG and CAPA for the week of 10-Jan-2022, ITA is the 17th biggest airline group by seats in Europe and Lufthansa Group is fourth. Lufthansa Group's fleet is 13 times bigger than ITA's, and the Lufthansa airline has almost 12 times as many routes as ITA.

Both sides have previously indicated interest in a partnership, although ITA has followed its now defunct predecessor Alitalia in joining SkyTeam. ITA chairman Alfredo Altavilla has described his airline as a "pretty bachelorette" and hopes "Lufthansa will be one of those handsome and rich admirers who might be interested".

ITA could benefit from a strategic investor, but Lufthansa needs to satisfy itself of ITA's potential for sustainable profitability.
