London's City Airport is reopened

London City Airport was evacuated and flights diverted for two hours on Friday as police and fire officials investigated suspicious fumes.

A spokeswoman for the airport said the terminal was given the all-clear after two hours, although normal service had not yet resumed.

The alarm was raised and 2,000 people evacuated after passengers detected fumes coming from the ladies toilets.

A Met police spokesperson said the incident was not terrorism-related.

Almost three million passengers use the airport each year, primarily for business flights to the Continent.

Police and fire crews were called after several passengers in the airport reported coughing and irritation that could be related to the suspicious substance, which was first reported as a suspicious package.
