10APR2013: EVA Air considering the B787-10 and B777X

EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) is considering buying the Boeing 787-10 and the Boeing 777X its management has been quoted as saying. According to US magazine Aviation Week, the Taiwanese carrier is "waiting for Boeing to reveal more information with respect to the 787-10 and 777X" before making a decision. It has also said that it is keen on the B777-F as a replacement for its ageing cargo fleet of six MD-11(F)s and nine B747-400(F)s, but that the current soft global air cargo market does not render that a viable move at this moment in time. In line with its plan to cut costs, fuel costs in particular, EVA will gradually phase out its fleet of seven MD-90s and three B747-400s between 2014 and 2016 while simultaneously phasing in a fleet of seven brand new B777-300(ER)s and ten more A321-200s.
